About UsICVolunteers (ICV) is a non-profit organization which works in the field of communication (languages, information and communication technologies and conferences). On an international level, the organization manages a network of 13,000 volunteers from 180 countries and speaking 170 languages. Through volunteer effort, we cooperate with organizations in the humanitarian, social, environmental and medical fields to implement projects and conferences at local, national and international levels. We work with volunteers to implement social and educational programs in order to help populations and local communities to develop. In addition, ICVolunteers promotes volunteerism and its recognition, by enhancing civic commitment and involvement, and by providing leadership and links between organizations, individuals and communities. With headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland), ICVolunteers has offices and permanent representation in a number of other countries, including France, Spain, South Africa, Mali, Japan and Brazil. ICV in AfricaInformation and communication technologies as well as languages are an historical vocation for the organization which has been working in the West Africa region since 2002. Effectively, a symposium concerning the development of human skills in the information society was organized in Dakar1 in 2003, with the support of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and the Government of Canada. A documentary on the topic of the use of ICTs in Mali and in Senegal was made in the same year. Since then, we have been able to accompany several projects in the region and have set up offices and local representatives of ICV in both countries. The E-TIC program adds a new dimension to the work in progress for 8 years. It looks into a sector which is fundamental for the development of Africa and the world in general: agriculture, stockbreeding and fishing. A large majority of these workers are illiterate and live as nomads meaning that written information is not accessible to them. This project puts in place practices aimed at gathering information on the market, offers, buying/selling, weather and phytosanitary alerts.
